COST:  No Charge

Due to weather the skate park may be closed or in the summer due to extremely warm temperatures the skate park may close in the afternoons and reopen in the evenings.

Helmets with straps are mandatory

 

Concrete pyramid with grind rails and stairs in the center of the park.  We also have concrete fun boxes, 4’ wide and 10’ long, angled on all sides. Fun boxes are 8” and 12” tall.  Wood banks can be found at the end of the park and wood launch ramps in the middle.  There are also three grind rails.

All participants must have a consent form signed prior to skating, with parent’s signature if skater is under 18.  All skaters and rollerbladers must wear a helmet with straps.  Bathroom facilities are available.

ZOO SNOOZE

You bring the sleeping bags, we provide the fun! Join us for a “wild” night! Enjoy a live animal presentation, a night hike at the zoo, a craft, popcorn and a movie, and breakfast the next morning! Minimum 10 children and 2 chaperones at a cost of $300. Call the Zoo Education Department for further information.

Atascadero Police Explorer Post 48

Ages:                    Young Men and Women 14-20 years

The Atascadero Police Explorer Post 48 is a good way for youth and young adults to become involved with police department activities while serving their community. It provides a glimpse into training and job responsibilities of a law enforcement officer. It also serves as a service-oriented, leadership experience, which instills respect for law enforcement’s goal to protect and serve the public. The Police Explorers find themselves participating in many different activities including crowd and traffic control for community events, patrol ride-a-longs, station and desk help, training various aspects of law enforcement and helping in emergency situations.

 

The Atascadero Police Department is currently looking for young people who want to get involved in their community.

 

Each candidate is required to submit an application and participate in an oral interview with current police ecplorers. If successful in the interview and application process, a brief background and history check will be conducted. Once accepted into the program the Police Explorer must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA in school.

D.A.R.E.

DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION

D.A.R.E. is a collaborative effort by DARE certified law enforcement officers, educators, students, parents and community businesses. It offers and educational program, in a classroom setting to 5th and 6th graders to prevent or reduce drug abuse, violence and gang involvement. For more information call 461-5051.

9-1-1 FOR KIDS

One of the most important things kids need to know is what to do in an emergency. Red E, Fox is America’s most delightful super hero. His job is teach kids how to use 9-1-1 when they need the police, the fire department, or an ambulance. The Atascadero Police Department offers this program to all local elementary and pre-schools in the City of Atascadero. For more information call 461-5051.

R.E.C. PROGRAM

(RECREATION, EDUCATION, COMMUNITY)

LAKE PARK SUMMER CAMP

June 14th through August 20th

What are you going to do this summer?

Why not hang out at the Lake Park and make the most of it!

This program is cost friendly to participants and family and provides a safe place for kids to hang out while parents are at work. Choose from our half day program from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm or our full day program from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. We will provide a snack each day, staff supervision, arts and crafts activities, games, movies, and a wonderful place to develop lasting friendships! Some pklanned events include but are not limited to visiting the lake park wading pool, Charles Paddock Zoo, and other trips and excursions! Additional minimum funds may be required for certain events and participants will be notified in advance so they can decide whether they wish to attend on that particular day. Half Day Program $10.00 per week, $11.00 for non-residents

YOUTH PAINT YOUR OWN POTTERY

AGES 10+

Come share your creativity and paint your own pottery pieces! These pieces are already created and are microwave, dishwasher, and food safe. Come on a specific night to paint your chosen piece and, if you don’t complete your project that night you will receive a punch card allowing you to return for a certain number of sessions to complete your started master piece. Classes on Mondays 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm Chose your Project!

The Warren Foundation Youth Track and Field Program is charged with the concept of introducing young children to the sport of Track and Field and its related movements, through a technically correct pattern of teaching and progressions. All of this will be done within the confines of what is physically acceptable for each group. Sprinting , long distance running, jumping and throwing events will all be taught and practiced. The underlying principals of fun and participation and personal growth are considered important outcomes for each child.

Practices will be held weekly on Mondays – Wednesdays and some Fridays.

 

ATASCADERO YOUTH TRACK AND FIELD CLUB

This Track and Field Program will be starting another fun season of working with young athletes in improving speed and strength, endurance, and knowledge of the sport.

The club is for youth K-8 grades who desire to practice three times a week and compete locally and out of the county in youth track meets. The club is coordinated by Sam McMillan who is a certified USATF Coach who emphasizes good running techniques, proper field events techniques, and learn by doing.

VOLLEYBALL

2004 SPING COED JR VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

Ages 4th – 10th grades

 

The Spring Volleyball League is open to all boys and girls. All youth are encouraged to join this fun-fileld volleyball league. Emphasis is placed on learning and expanding skills, participation and fun. Ganes and practices are held Monday and Wednesday nights at the Atascadero Junior High School Old Gym. The league will start April 5th and run through May 2004.

EDUCATION FUN

HUNTER EDUCATION

Ages 10+

Completion of this class is required for all first time hunters in California to obtain a California Hunter Safety Certificate and is required for most hunters who want to hunt out-of-state. Course includes firearms safety, sportsmanship, and wildlife conservation. Attendance is mandatory to all four classes.
